WELCOME TO THE ONTARIO ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATIONAN ORGANIZATION REPRESENTING ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEONS PRACTICING IN ONTARIO, CANADA.April 26, 2021 The Orthopaedic Surgeons of Ontario truly sympathize with COVID patients and caregivers, however outside of the GTA and surrounding area, many surgeons report low COVID impact on hospital resources. Despite this, hospitals have slowed or stopped even outpatient surgery seemingly without necessity. Meanwhile, the number of patients in Ontario in need of “non-urgent” surgery is edging toward half a million, with a disproportionate number awaiting orthopaedic restorative procedures, waiting in pain, limiting basic activities we take for granted. We feel a more regionalized approach would allow care to those in need in regions without significant COVID impact, a strategy that could change instantly should the need arise, and a strong plan toward the rapid resumption of services as the COVID burden of care permits. |
